You can download Power BI Desktop from the official Microsoft website or the Microsoft Store:
- https://powerbi.microsoft.com/desktop
- Or search for "Power BI Desktop" in the Microsoft Store
Once downloaded, follow the installation wizard to complete the setup.

After installation, open Power BI Desktop. You will see a welcome screen with options to:
- Get Data

Click on “Get Data” to start connecting to your first data source.

The main interface of Power BI Desktop is divided into several key areas:

Power BI Desktop files are saved with the extension:
.pbix
– the main file format for saving reports.
These files include data models, visuals, and queries.
