Core Azure architectural components (regions, availability zones, resource groups)

Lesson 2.2: Core Azure Architectural Components

🔹 Azure Regions

  • Region: A set of datacenters deployed within a specific geographic location.
  • Microsoft Azure is available in geographically distributed regions around the world.
  • Each region is a separate deployment area, such as East US, West Europe, Southeast Asia, etc.
  • Choosing a region close to your users reduces latency and improves performance.

🔹 Availability Zones

  • Availability Zones: Physically separate datacenters within a region.
  • Each zone has independent power, cooling, and networking.
  • Used to enhance availability and fault tolerance for applications and data.
  • You can replicate applications across zones to ensure high availability.

🔹 Resource Groups

  • Resource Group: A container that holds related Azure resources.
  • Resources that share the same lifecycle (e.g., web app, database, storage account) should be grouped together.
  • You can manage resources collectively (monitoring, access control, deletion, etc.)
  • Each resource must exist in one resource group, and a resource group can span across regions.

📌 Summary

  • Regions define the geographical location.
  • Availability Zones provide fault isolation within regions.
  • Resource Groups help manage and organize resources effectively.
